Women Centre of Jamaica Foundation - Examination Success

The Women Centre of Jamaica Foundation is boasting a successful year in both GNAT and CSEC examination results. 

Of the 190 students who sat the GNAT 89% was reintegrated in the formal school system and 69% of those who sat the CSEC examinations pased one or more subjects.  Five students were successful in six subjects and over.

The Foundation will continue to positively impact the lives of its particpants.

World Contraception Day 2009

The Women Centre of Jamaica Foundation (WCJF) participated in this year's World Contraception Day held Saturday, September 26, 2009.

The theme of this year's campaign was "Your life, Your voice." The message targeted young people aged 17-25 years aiming to educate them about their contraceptive options thus enabling this group to make informed choices about parenthood.  http://www.your-life.com/

Mrs. Beryl Weir, Executive Director delivered a presentation and the Foundation mounted a booth displaying Sexual and Reproductive Health materials.

PEER EDUCATOR TRAINING

Peer Education is considered one of the tools available to reach young people with information and skills.
The Women's Centre of Jamaica Foundation (WCJF) intends to address sexual reproductive health issues in Jamaica by using 'peer influence' approach to train young people in sexual and reproductive health matters.

The WCFJ through the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) hosted two residential Peer Educator Workshops in July.  The targeted parishes were Clarendon and Manchester.

Forty-six males, 17-25 years who are youth leaders or potential leaders from civic groups and community based organizations were trained as Peer Educators.

Women's Centre of Jamiaca Foundation to get new Facilities


Construction of kitchen and dining facilities at the Women's Centre of Jamaica Foundation is scheduled to begin this month, with the contribution of US$50,000 by the Jamaica Volunteers Association (JVA) Incorporated, based in the United States.
